Environmental policy
Our Environmental Policy includes the following principles, on which our daily operation is based:
- Always to operate in compliance with the pertinent environmental legislation.
- To operate responsibly, in full knowledge of our environmental impact taking all suitable measures for their minimization, as well as measures for the prevention of environmental incidents.
- To cooperate with appropriately licensed companies for the management of our waste.
- To set targets for the continuous improvement of our environmental performance and the reduction of our environmental footprint.
- To operate under a regime of absolute transparency and participate in open dialogue with all of our partners on environmental issues.
- To train our employees to participate actively in matters of environmental management.
- To establish mechanisms for the control and monitoring of environmental parameters and adopt the EU’s Best Available Techniques where applicable.
Environmental terms of operation of Thisvi industrial area
Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. implements an Environmental Management System in accordance with international standard ISO 14001:2004. The Company is subject to annual inspections by accredited body in order to achieve continuous improvement of its environmental performance. Additionally, Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. has taken all the appropriate measures to fully comply with the requirements of the new standard ISO 14001:2015.
The Company in order to comply with existing legislation operates under specific environmental conditions, which are approved by the relevant authorities. Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. applies all action lines of its environmental license and ensures the implementation of appropriate measures for protecting the environment. At the same time, the Company develops suitable mechanisms aiming at continuous control of the companies established in Thisvi Industrial Area, in regards their compliance with its environmental conditions.
Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. employs qualified personnel for fulfilling the terms of its environmental license and continuing improving its environmental issues. Constant personnel training, internal inspections, measurements and analyses, mechanisms and infrastructure developed for protecting the marine environment, creation and conservation of green areas within the industrial area, are some of the basic action lines, the Company follows for improving its environmental footprint.
Environmental management
Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V.’s commitment to protecting the environment is a fundamental principle and a main pillar of its daily operation. Its commitment is based on:
- the environmentally sound management of waste produced by its activities;
- the creation and protection of green areas, as well as the preservation of the area’s characteristics;
- compliance with the operating regulations and town plan regulations of the Industrial Area by the established companies.
Specifically, Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. uses its approved Town Plan to gradually develop infrastructure and implements an environmental management programme according to which:
- it has planted trees and bushes and created green areas along its main road, from the entrance of the Industrial Area to Thisvi Port Facilities and common Block 6 of Thisvi Industrial Area. More than 5,000 bushes and trees have been planted, while additional planting is in progress. Thisvi Industrial Area’s planting is based on a report carried out by the Agricultural University of Athens. This report took into account factors such as area’s flora, plants’ watering needs, water resources’ availability etc., in order to protect area’s ecosystem and preserve natural resources.
- it cooperates exclusively with licensed waste management companies for collection, transportation and recovery of waste and recyclable materials. The Company has environmental license which describes in detail the amounts of waste produced by its operations and their management method.
- it has an approved waste management plan for receiving ship generated waste approaching port facilities of Thisvi Industrial Area.
- it operates a modern Waste Water Treatment Facility (WWTF) where urban and industrial waste from Thisvi Industrial Area is treated. The treated water is utilized in the Industrial Area’s irrigation network for its plants watering needs, thus achieving water savings. Regular measurements for ensuring the quality of the processed water are conducted by skilled employees, keeping a relevant file.
- it has prepared and implements a prevention plan for maritime pollution, according to which it has purchased the necessary equipment and regularly carries out drills to protect the marine environment.
- it has installed energy-saving lamps (LED) at Thisvi port area.
Waste water treatment facility
During 2008, Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. completed infrastructure works (phase A) and put into operation a modern waste water treatment facility (WWTF), which serves the needs of the companies established in Thisvi Industrial Area.
Thisvi Industrial Area waste water treatment facility, applies the method of active sludge with prolonged ventilation, with simultaneous stabilization of sludge and tertiary wastewater treatment. Liquid waste is urban and industrial waste water coming from the companies established in the industrial area.
Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. employs qualified and appropriately trained staff ensuring quality results. Treated waste water of WWTF is available for restricted irrigation of green areas (grass, trees and bushes) through appropriate irrigation system.
The scientific staff of WWTF performs regularly analyses of treated wastewater samples, in order to define quality characteristics and to ensure full compliance with existing legislation. Meanwhile, the staff of WWTF monthly receives a sample of treated wastewater, which is sent to an external accredited laboratory for further chemical and microbiological analyses.
Additionally, Dia.Vi.Pe.Thi.V. S.A. cooperates with appropriate licensed contractors for the collection, transportation and further use of treated sludge coming from waste water treatment facility.
